Art Form Sculpture Studio
Description:
Art Form Sculpture Studio is a Victoria-based studio that creates stoneworks, sculptures, gargoyles, fireplaces and more. Art Form creates beautiful work, but didn't have a website that showcased it effectively. I created a website with a new look that really highlighted the work they did with big, bold photos.
The site includes custom photo galleries and an interactive slider on the home page, as well as a sharp new design. Website designed while employed at Atomic Crayon.

Kanada Golf
Description:
I was asked to create a website for a company that brings avid German golfers and travelers to hit the links on the beautiful west coast of Canada. With the majority of clients being retirees, the site needed to be clean and easily readable while still showing off the courses and the natural beauty of the area. I placed a high accentuation on photos while adding illustrated mountains - the Rockies being one of the major drawing points for the visitors. Oh, and one added challenge: the whole site was in German!

Sound Chamber
Description:
Rock & Roll! Sound Chamber is a collaborative of Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland, BC musicians, artists, filmmakers and designers, with the site conceived to be a place where talented freelancers could show off their myriad talents. I was brought on board with the mandate of: make this site as cool as the work we'll display on it!
I made the site bright, bold and engaging to work with a variety of styles. A customized, embedded music player was added to listen to music online, and an integrated shopping cart was added for those who were impressed enough with the talent on the site to purchase some wares.

Versadex is an annual conference for law enforcement officers that features panel discussions and keynote speakers presenting on a wide variety of law enforcement issues. This year the conference is in Victoria and is about connections and technology.
I created a site with a lot of white space, thereby allowing content to be the focus and easy to read. This allowed conference attendees to find the information they needed quickly and to register in the easiest manner. Hopefully this gets me out of a ticket or two! Delta Community Animal Shelter
Description:
In 2008, the Corporation of Delta took over animal control services and shelter operations from the Delta Humane Society. The animal shelter is now called Delta Community Animal Shelter. DCAS wanted a site that fit in with their corporate branding but would also show off the cute pets up for adoption and help to find homes for them. I conceived of a site with a bright, fun, photo-filled aesthetic using corporate colours that would show these future pets off in the best possible way. I also created a brand new logo for DCAS as part of the project. Website designed while employed at Atomic Crayon.

Philip Testemale Fine Woodworks & Graphic Arts
Description:
While I continue my lifelong struggle to find out my talent that doesn't involve eating popcorn, some people have more than enough talent to spare. Victoria-based Philip Testemale is one such person - he contacted me looking for a website that would show off his skills in both fine woodworking and graphic arts. I created a site that was visually more sparse but portfolio heavy, leaving site visitors to be attracted to Phil's very impressive work.

This great, Victoria-based accountancy firm hired me in 2009 to update their website. They'd gone through a change in partnership and, subsequently, company name. With the knowledge that they were going to change letterhead and website URL, they opted to go for a new website design and structure, as well. I created a new design and new logo based on the corporate colours, which would give a fresh but familiar look, helping to entice new clientele while making long-standing clients feel comfortable.

Earth Walk Victoria
Description:
Earth Walk is an annual parade celebrating Earth Day and the environment. I met the coordinator for Earthwalk's website while standing in a 10-hour passport lineup one rainy February morning. Drenched and confused, I agreed to design their website. I had a two-week timespan to create a new design and post all content. There was high-level time pressure as the site had to go live prior to nationwide advertising. This project was completed as a volunteer.

Uganda Hotels & Lodges
Description:
In March 2008 I went on a trip to East Africa - Uganda and Tanzania. Seeing an opportunity to have some fun and do some bartering, I contacted a company in Kampala and traded my web design skills for a gorilla trekking safari. While working long distance, I created a 200-page website featuring a compendium of lodges, hotels and apartments from around Uganda, and that featured an upgraded booking engine. Plus, I got to see some really cool animals...

Double Double U Wedding
Description:
Ok, so this is one I actually did for myself. I got married in August 2007 and, having good taste in friends, most are quite techno-savvy. That said, I created a web-based invitation for everyone, and reached into my bag of web tricks. The invite featured a PHP-based RSVP system and message board, and a customized Google Map that showed visitors good places to eat and drink in town (and for the curious ones, even where the ceremony was!)

My web career started auspiciously in 2001 when I went to Bosnia as volunteer web designer, creating websites for NGOs in Sarajevo. At the time, I knew exactly as much HTML as Serbo-Croat (i.e. none), but somehow managed to survive. I followed the volunteering with three years of web-based television work in London, England. I returned to Canada in 2004 and have been working as a freelance and full-time web designer since.
